Preservation Project – Temporary Closure

From time to time a home needs care and attention. We are so excited to have the opportunity to tackle this important preservation work to improve the condition of the wood flooring on our second story. Every room will be emptied of furnishings, repaired, sanded, and refinished. This work is expected to take at least three weeks, so we will close for the duration. We apologize for any inconvenience but appreciate your understanding and support.

We will close Monday, March 16th and expect to re-open for tours on Tuesday, April 14th. Crews will place all the second floor furniture on the first floor, assemble vapor and particle barriers to protect areas of the museum that are not being restored, replace soft spots, unsightly patches, and weak boards, and then sand and apply finishes to the entire area.

Staff will have limited and intermittent access to phones, but will monitor phone and email messages remotely. Our tour and event schedule will resume as soon as the floors are cured and the air is clear. Watch for updates on this website and our Facebook page!
